I just got off the phone with Pike Bay Lodge in Tower, MN. Made my reservations for June 15-22. This will be my 7th year to go up there for a week in June. This is one trip I ain't missing and when I checked the web site yesterday and saw it was almost booked up for the week I wanted, I called Jay (the owner) and told him to get me a bed reserved or I'd be sleeping with him at his house. I know some of ya'll have asked about going up there last couple of years when I went. So I thought I'd post this. If any of ya'll think you might like to try it, if you book the same week I'm there I try and point you in the right direction. I've never had a bad trip up there and it's one trip I plan on making every year for as long as I possibly can. Pike Bay is a really nice and affordable place to stay, it'll run $300-$400 for a week depending on how many. As of this afternoon there are two cabins that sleep 3 each open, they run $700/week. And a couple of bigger ones that sleep up to 12. All have kitchens. He rents boats too, although I always take mine.

As you can tell I really like the lake, the fish'n, the lodge and the folks that run it. Not to mention the highs are usually in the 50's to low 70's up there, you'll see low 40's, maybe even high 30's for lows in June.

www.lakevermilionresort.net  is the web site.

Holler at me if you've got any questions. If any of ya are interested, don't wait too long though, it's filling up really fast this year.

I've got 3 guys going with me and I've reserved the Chauffeur's Quarters, there are two of the smaller units still open, the Limousine and the Stutz Bearcat. They both will sleep 3 and run $700/week for 2. They are also in the same building I'm at. Ya'll got any questions text/call me at 501-733-0895, the number for Pike Bay is 1-800-474-5322 . If you call up there tell Jay you're coming up with me. He takes good care of everyone, but I've got really good friends with him over the years and it won't hurt. It'll be  blast.

If you do call to reserve the Limousine or the Stutz Bearcat and they are both available, get the Stutz. They are almost identical, but the Stutz has a lake view and the Limousine doesn't. I've stayed in both and that's the only difference.

How's the panfishing? Any catfish up there?  I wouldn't be able to go until the kids are grown but a guy can dream.

They got  crappie, bluegill,  bullhead cat, largemouth bass, muskellunge, northern pike, sunfish, rock bass, smallmouth bass, tullibee (cisco), walleye, white sucker, and yellow perch. They call a 10" crappie a biggun. Most fish for walleye and yellow perch to eat and muskie or northern pike for fun. When I first started going up thee in 2013 there were almost no folks fishing for bass up there, but it's gained popularity every year. Now there quite a few folks bass fishing. Still not as many bass fish'n as for walleye, but we're not the only ones up there with bass boats now.

License is $39 for a week. Your fuel for the trip, it's 986 miles from my house to the lodge. I usually spend the night going up, so there's that motel bill, drive straight through coming home, 15 hours if you hump it. Boat gas, tackle and eats. Got a kitchen in every cabin, so eat'n can be as cheap or expensive as you make it. Plenty of places to eat within 5 or 6 miles. Great grocery store 5 miles from the cabins, I've stopped carrying a lot of food stuff up there because it's easier just to get it up there. We usually eat out about 1/2 the time, depends on the crew and how much cooking we want to do. Cabins also have gas and charcoal grills with them. He has a good fish cleaning place. I take a fish cooker.  Gas station, convenience store, tackle store less than a mile away. Indian casino about 6 or 7 miles.
Once I launch the boat I won't take it out of the water again unless I want to trailer around to the other end of the lake or they call for really bad weather. Charging plugs on the docks and he now has gas available at the dock. Until last year we had to load the boat up once or twice to go get gas, but he fixed that. Room will run $300-$400 per head/week depending on how many and which cabin.
Gas and the room will be the biggest cost.

You can also fish yourself to death up there, the week I'm there daylight is at 4:30 and dark is 9:45. You kind'a have to pace yourself. If you fish till dark and then come in and clean up, fix or go get supper, it'll be damn near midnight before you get into bed and then daylight comes around really fast. A couple of days of that and you'll be dragging. I don't fight it that hard anymore, there ain't no need. Last couple of years I've left all those daylight and dark fish for seed. There's plenty to catch without kill'n yourself.
